#BossedUp

Maria Paula Arboleda is a senior majoring in Motion Pictures Production and Finance, and minoring in Legal Studies.

Maria interned at Contravia Films, a production company, in Colombia in the summer of 2017. “My role was a production assistant, but I worked in different areas of film production, even accounting and legal! It was an incredible learning experience because I was able to witness how different the Colombian industry is to the American one. It also made me realize that, although I want to establish my own production company in the future, I must work and make movies for other production companies first because building up recognition is a fundamental part of becoming a successful filmmaker.”

She’s also been able to get #BossedUp by coming to Toppel for resume and cover letter critiques. “Since I’m graduating this May, I have been working on my resume and cover letters, and I have received a lot of great help. Thanks to the entire Toppel team, I have been able to become a stronger candidate for jobs.”

Some advice from Maria: “Time really flies by. Take advantage of all the resources the university offers. Go to the Cosford Cinema and watch free movies on campus and go to Toppel. The only regret that I really have is not going to Toppel sooner.”

Aurora Garcia

Sr. Administrative Assistant

I’m a native New Yorker who has lived in Vermont, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, and now finally, has found a home in Miami. This is actually my second stint in Miami, as I attended Florida International University and earned a degree in International Relations. I took an Art History elective as a Freshman, not because I liked art but because I heard it was easy. But that first class opened me to a whole new world and before you knew it I had an Art History minor and I was doing an internship in the FIU Art Museum on the University Park campus. My biggest takeaway from college was: Follow your interests.
