#BossedUp

Meet Luis Afiuni Avila, a senior studying Motion Pictures and Studio Art! Luis has been getting #BossedUp this semester, working on his personal brand. By creating a reel video showcasing his footage and a portfolio of his graphic design work (and networking, of course), he has been able to find several freelance opportunities in the South Miami area, filming commercials for start-up companies and independent short films.

Some advice from Luis: “My advice to other students, communication students in particular, is to not wait for college to end to get your life started. Your time in college is the perfect time to get out there and look for opportunities for professional improvement, just make sure to be proactive and reliable!"

Be on the lookout for Summer Experience Email

Students now have the chance to review employers on Handshake! Reviews are an opportunity for you to share feedback on internship experiences with your peers and employer.

You will be receiving an email from Handshake on September 27th that will give you access to write a review for a company you interned at, providing valuable feedback for your classmates. Honest, constructive reviews are encouraged. You can provide feedback anonymously too -- you may also edit or delete your reviews at any time.

See what reviews have already been posted as a great tool when doing company research. Now you can get the inside scoop on companies from a student perspective!

Facebook Coding Interview Workshop

The Facebook interview process is designed around the idea that all potential hires, with proper preparation, have the ability to quickly whiteboard solutions to questions that involve describing an algorithm and translating that description into working code. Doing well on this is a strong signal that you're able to understand how to write efficient algorithms, effectively problem solve, and communicate your thoughts in code clearly.

If you prepare by solving interview-style questions in a timed way, you'll increase the chance that your coding ability will come through during the interview process.

Learn directly from Facebook engineers on how to effectively prepare for a coding interview and master the tips and tricks that will help you land your dream job!

Devin Rogan

Associate Director Employer Engagement

“I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Monmouth University, which is a small private school located near the Jersey Shore. I was very focused on my academics while in college but stayed active with extra-curricular activities at the same time. I participated in pretty much every intramural sport possible, was a member of Sigma Pi Fraternity, volunteered for our sports radio station, and held several part-time jobs. My favorite aspect of college was the life-long friendships that I made and still stay in contact with on a daily basis. My one piece of advice for students is to utilize the resources available to you on campus. Whether it’s the Career Center, Student Affairs, the Academic Center, and so much more, you can always find the support you need at any time.”
