#MakeMoves

Meet UM alumnus, Garrett Grossberg! Garrett graduated in 2011 and spends his work days as the Director of Operations at Unity Jets, a private aviation company. There he works to ensure day to day logistics run smoothly and arranges jet travel for CEOs, athletes and entertainers all over the world.

Looking back, Grossberg believes his success is based on the fact that he stayed in Miami after graduation. “The majority of my friends and classmates left to NYC, Boston and D.C. after college. It was tough at first. Miami was an entirely different place post college. There was an entire community of people that I didn’t know. I had to force myself to meet new people and make new friends. The past seven years have flown by and I couldn’t feel more at home.”

Nearly a decade later, Grossberg says forcing himself out of his comfort zone and rebuilding his nuclear community from the ground up was the best decision he has ever made.

Adding Passion to Your Work

Have you ever wondered where your passions will take you? A lot of emphasis today is placed on finding jobs that align with your values and your passions. But is this enough to succeed and maintain passion in the work you do?

According to Sweta Patel, founder of Silicon Valley Startup Marketing, the answer may be no. This article delves into what it means to add passion to your work and why gaining a people-centric attitude is important.

Connect with Employers through Handshake

Was there a company you’re interested in that wasn’t at the Career Expo? Use Handshake to connect with them!

Search for the company on Handshake and favorite their page. Look for the email address of the company’s Recruiting Manager on their Handshake page under “Contact Information.” Consider emailing this person to express your interest and inquire about any job openings. Tip: make sure this email is worded professionally and includes some background information about yourself; attach your resume if it’s polished and ready.

On the company’s Handshake page, identify UM alumni who work there who may be open to connecting with you. Again, be professional when emailing. The company’s Handshake page also lets you know if they will be doing any events on campus in the near future.

Send questions for the panelists to kmcmonigal@rsmas.miami.edu.
