#BossedUp

As you may know, the Toppel theme this year is #BossedUp. You might be wondering…what exactly does “bossed up” mean? We asked our peer advisors to answer this question and they gave some great examples of how they’re getting bossed up and what this theme means to them. Watch this video to discover what they said and get to know our peer advising team.

One thing all their answers had in common was that getting bossed up requires a commitment to yourself and taking ownership of your own career development. Get #BossedUp this semester and take advantage of all Toppel has to offer! Stop in for advising or visit HireACane.com to learn more.

Before you can schedule an on-campus interview you’ll need to apply, following each organization’s deadline for resume submission. Once you have been selected for an interview, you can select a time slot and schedule a time to meet with a potential employer.

On-Campus interviews provide a convenient opportunity for you to interview with many prominent employers without leaving campus!

Getting your Resume Past the System into Human Hands

After spending some time perfecting your resume for recruiters, what simple steps can you take to make sure that it ends up in the right hands when applying for a job or internship?

The mere fact that many companies rely on pre-filtering application programs during their hiring process tells us that not every resume will get looked at by recruiters and HR managers. Though there may be hundreds or even thousands of resumes that go through this process, there are additional steps you can take that will ensure yours will get looked at! This article from The Muse shares tips on what keywords to include or how to format your resume “just right” so that it gets through that initial sorting phase and onto the recruiter’s desk.

Associate Director, Career Readiness

“College was an exciting time for me. I took a major risk by attending a university in which I knew the academics would challenge me more than I had been challenged before. I also went across the country, not knowing a soul. It was in college that I truly gained confidence in myself and started to find my voice, speaking up for issues that I cared about. As a northerner my whole life, it was in this time that I gained a new appreciation for all things South: country music, cowboy boots, and delicious shrimp and grits. My best advice to current college students is: Work smarter, not harder. One of the best lessons you can learn in college is how to balance and prioritize everything that is important to you.”
