#MakeMoves

Meet Lis Llanio! Lis is a sophomore at UM, majoring in biochemistry and nutrition, with a minor in chemistry and psychology.

This semester Lis participated in Toppel’s UShadow program where she was able to shadow a UM alumni and entrepreneur who developed a skin care startup, Eben Cosmetics. During her shadowing experience Lis learned about the ingredients that go into Eben Cosmetics products and conducted research on the ingredients. Her research was put to the test when she had to present her findings and honest opinions to the CEO for evaluation! Lis says she was shocked by how the CEO and the chemistry team valued her input and opinions.

Some advice from Lis: “Never be shy to speak your mind, even when confronted with experts of the field. Showing genuine attempt and interest in the field truly goes a long way, and even impresses those experts around you. Confidence is also key; just because you may be new, doesn’t mean your input isn’t valuable, just make sure you say it at the proper time and in the proper way.”

Interested students will apply for the internship, which includes a $3500 stipend on behalf of ESPN and the Sports Task Force.
