#MakeMoves

Meet Bruna Fernandes da Silva! Bruna is a junior majoring in Industrial Engineering and minoring in Economics. This summer she will be working as an Operations Summer Analyst for Goldman Sachs in Salt Lake City.

Bruna says that going to Toppel and meeting with her advisor, Kim, was essential in preparing for her interview. She not only got an idea of what to expect but also learned how to market her experiences specifically for the position. Bruna also likes to step out of her comfort zone to learn new things and she let her interviewers know that! From taking courses outside her major and minor, to being a law intern back in her hometown of Dallas, she has always enjoyed approaching different challenges and developing new skills.

Some advice from Bruna: “Take skills from everything you do. Once you start seeing challenges as learning opportunities you will become more effective in everything you do!”

Looking for a Job? Highlight your Ability, not your Experience

Did you know that only a quarter of college graduates work in a field that relates to their degree?

Very few of us hold jobs that line up directly with our past experiences or what we studied in college. Take TED Resident Jason Shen for example; he graduated with two degrees in biology but became a product manager at Etsy. In this quick, insightful talk about human potential, Shen shares some new thinking on how job seekers can make themselves more attractive -- and why employers should look for ability over credentials.
