#MakeMoves

Look who’s been making moves! Meet UM Alumnus and Toppel’s very own, Brian Malcolm. Brian is the new Assistant Director of Career Services, managing Toppel’s career outreach program. In this role, he builds relationships across the university to help students connect their academic and career experiences and strengthen their professional development.

Brian knows how hard it can be to find the right path. In his time at UM, he injured himself before football tryouts and changed majors five times. He overcame many obstacles as an undergrad at UM and ultimately found his calling. Now it is his goal to reach out to as many UM students as possible to help them realize their potential.

Make the most of Toppel's services, just like Brian did when he was a UM student. To learn more about Brian, check out this article.

    Keep your Handshake Account Updated!

An updated, accurate profile, is a better reflection of who you are. The more complete your profile and career interests are, the more Handshake can customize your user experience to recommend jobs that are a better fit for you.

When a potential employer or future colleague looks at your Handshake profile, they are trying to learn more about you. If you’ve applied to jobs or internships, hiring managers look at your profile because they may want to see how you talk about yourself in your bio, what your interests are, and what projects you have participated in. Put your best foot forward by updating your profile. It could mean the difference between getting the job and getting passed over!

To keep your Handshake profile up-to-date: upload a professional headshot and update your education information, work experience, extracurricular activities, courses, skills, and projects. Upload your resume and add a short biography. Also, make sure your profile is set to “public” so that employers can easily search and contact you. You can then see how “strong”, or complete, your profile is and if anyone has recently viewed your profile.
