Look who’s been making moves! Meredith Sloan is a senior Broadcast Journalism major and Human & Social Development minor. During the summer, she split her time between teaching Stand Up Paddle Yoga on Nantucket and interning at the Needham Channel (local TV) in Needham, Massachusetts. At the Needham Channel, she served as an intern production assistant, anchored the weekly live newscast, and starred in an on-air educational yoga program called Namaste Needham.

"I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to combine my passion for yoga with broadcasting!"

Career Expo & Graduate School Fair - This Week!

Stop by the Watsco Center on Oct. 4th any time between 1-5PM to meet employers from a variety of industries! Make sure you’re dressed to impress. Read on for a description of what professional attire entails and additional ways to come prepared.

Never heard of Expo? Expo allows you to explore internship and full-time job opportunities both locally and nationally. It also allows you to explore local, national, and international graduate school programs. Students from all majors and class levels are encouraged to attend. It’s never too early or too late to start networking!

Come to Toppel for walk-in advising, available Monday – Friday 9am – 4:30pm. Please note walk-in advising will not be available on October 4th, the day of Expo. Click here for more information.
Conduct company research. Click here for a list of companies attending Expo.
For day of Expo: Print at least 20 copies of your resume, bring your CaneID, dress professionally, and remember to collect business cards from recruiters for following-up after the event.

Use Handshake to Get the Most Out of Expo

Before the Career Expo & Graduate School Fair on Wednesday, 1) make sure you register on Handshake, take a look at the list of companies attending, and conduct research on the ones you are interested in.

Be prepared to talk to employers by checking out the company's website, mission, open positions, and general information. If you demonstrate knowledge about each company or manager you're talking to, you'll certainly stand out from the crowd!

Also make sure to have some questions ready for company representatives that show your knowledge of their organization. Employers are not only looking for the most skilled candidate for the job – they are also looking for candidates who are genuinely interested in their company. The more you engage them, the better the impression you'll make.

Joselyn Garcia

Sr. Admin. Assistant

Joselyn provides administrative support for the department, assists with scheduling internal and external meetings for the Associate Dean and Executive Director, prepares financial reports, reconciles accounts, and supervises front office operations including student staff. Joselyn is currently working toward her bachelor's degree in sociology at UM and has over 13 years of customer service and administrative experience.
