#MakeMoves

Look who’s been making moves! Steph Farmer is UM alumna who has been working at Deloitte since graduating in 2009. She is currently on assignment in Sydney, Australia and is a Director in the Assurance & Advisory Quality & Risk team. When she moves back to the US next month, she will be a Senior Manager in the Las Vegas audit practice.

Steph’s favorite part of her job is that she is constantly challenged to learn and grow professionally. “Deloitte is an organization that does so many things in so many locations around the world. The scale of the organization means that there are incredible opportunities for employees who seek them.”

Some advice from Steph: “Start networking early; the more people you meet from an organization, the better insight you get about that organization's culture and your likelihood to thrive there. Remember when interviewing begins that you are interviewing the prospective employer just as much as they are interviewing you. Look for an organization where you can see yourself succeeding while being yourself, as that will provide the best environment for you to grow.”

Check out this short article to learn about three skills that’ll help you no matter where you go in your career.

Searching for a Job on Handshake Just Got Easier

Handshake knows that searching for a job online can be challenging. That’s why they came up with way to make the search more personalized to you!

Now on Handshake, students don’t have to know exactly what job search terms to use. Handshake learns your interests, skills, and backgrounds and then recommends opportunities based on what similar students are excited about. Their algorithms then tune recommendations based on your behavior over time.

When you are doing a search, definitely use the “Save Search” feature. You’ll likely end up performing many searches on Handshake. To save you time, you can save your searches so you can easily run them again in the future. For example, you may do a search for a job with specific criteria that are important to you. If you save that search, you can come back days, weeks, or months later and quickly run the same search on the current list of jobs. To learn more about this feature click here.
