We know how important it is to explore your options, prepare for your future career, and connect with professionals in your field of interest. Throughout each of these phases of your career development, you should also be building the skills you need to become career ready.

Career readiness is not just about finding and getting the right job--it’s about being ready once you’re there. The core competencies of career readiness broadly prepare UM students for a successful transition into life after the U. Through these competencies, based on the most common attributes employers seek in potential employees, we aim to help you raise and reach the professional standards in your given field.

Here at Toppel, we’ll never stop teaching the importance of identifying and communicating how your skills, experiences, and strengths are relevant to your career path. Once you are on the job, however--whether it’s your first internship, your first job after graduation, or your last job before retirement--there are many skills ‘Canes need to succeed.

  • Skills Advantage Series (SAS): SAS is a virtual, self-directed training program for UM students who want to learn beyond the classroom by honing in on specific transferable skills.
  • Toppel Internship Program: TIP is a FREE way to gain academic credit for your internship experience.
  • Professional Development Academy: The Professional Development Academy is an intensive program to help you develop skills to help you succeed.
  • Forage: Get a taste of industry experience by completing short, real-world, company-backed online projects with companies including JPMorgan Chase & Co, Citi, Accenture, BCG, and Deloitte.
  • Mindsumo: Earn money, experience, and potential job opportunities by participating in online crowdsourcing projects called "Challenges" launched by over 100 of the Fortune 500.
  • LinkedIn Learning: An on-demand learning solution designed to help you gain new professional skills and advance your career.
