#MakeMoves

Meet Jacky Sanchez, a junior studying Public Relations. Last summer Jacky completed the Canon Insights Summer Internship Program, which she secured after attending Toppel’s Career Crawl in New York where she met her future boss. In her role, she created marketing content for Canon to distribute to clients and online.

Canon Solutions America is a Miami Silver Partner for the Toppel Career Center. Their support funds programming and new initiatives for University of Miami students.

Some advice from Jacky: “Reach out to whoever you can when seeking an internship, even if you think you are not qualified or are hesitant to. I sent so many emails during my process of applying for internships that spring before I interned at Canon, and I received many more (kind) replies than I originally anticipated. The worst thing a potential employer could say is "No", and even then, I believe that taking the initiative only works in your favor because it plants your name in the employer's head and shows that you are confident and enthusiastic enough to reach out. Plus, hearing some "No"s thickens your skin, which is vital for any field you enter.”

Join us for a special screening of All The Difference. Filmed over five and a half years, All The Difference weaves together the stories of two promising young black men as they navigate their lives in broken homes and low-income, high-risk communities in Chicago.

Statistics predict they will drop out of high school and succumb to life on the streets; but both graduate and go on to college in spite of all the odds. After they graduate, the film follows them for another 6 months as they both find meaningful work. At City Year, we’re working to bridge the gap in high-poverty communities between the support that students actually need, and what their schools are designed and resourced to provide. In doing so, we’re helping to increase graduation rates across the country, and changing the lives of the students we serve.
