UM and the Toppel Career Center work closely to provide academic and career resources to help first-generation students successfully transition to the university and prepare for their future career goals.

As the first member of your immediate family to attend a four-year college, your experience at the University of Miami is unique. We know that first-generation students bring a breadth of experience, skills, and knowledge to the U. At the same time, the University provides many resources that can aid in your transition to campus, including the Camner Academic Resource CenterWriting Center, Office of Academic Enhancement, and Office of Multicultural Student Affairs.  Don't forget you can also meet with a Toppel career advisor as early as your first semester to discuss and plan for your future career. Many of our staff were also first-generation students and can better relate to what you may be experiencing. We are here to support you through this exciting time!
